About Teddy Pendergrass
Teddy Pendergrass was an American R&B and soul singer who rose to prominence as lead vocalist for Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes before launching a successful solo career. His powerful voice and romantic ballads earned him five consecutive platinum albums between 1977 and 1981. He recorded the hit "If You Don't Know Me by Now" with the Blue Notes and later collaborated with Whitney Houston on the duet "Hold Me." He received an American Music Award for Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist in 1979.

Pendergrass passed away on January 13, 2010, at age 59 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. In 2018, BBC Film produced the documentary "If You Don't Know Me by Now," and in 2023, Rolling Stone ranked him No. 42 on their list of 200 Greatest Singers of All Time. He was posthumously inducted into the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame in 2021.
