About Phil Solem
Phil Solem is a musician and songwriter born in Duluth, Minnesota, best known as one half of the alternative rock duo The Rembrandts, which he formed with Danny Wilde in 1989. The pair co-wrote and performed "I'll Be There for You," the iconic theme song for NBC's Friends, which topped the Hot 100 Airplay chart. Earlier in his career, Solem played in Great Buildings and the glam rock band Android.
Since this interview
The Rembrandts released the album Via Satellite in 2019. In 2024, Solem performed "I'll Be There for You" on stage for the Friends cast at a tribute to director James Burrows and rehearsed for a David Bowie tribute show.
