About Peter Knight

Peter Knight is an English folk musician and multi-instrumentalist known for his work with British folk rock group Steeleye Span from 1970 to 2013. Proficient on violin, mandolin, banjo, guitar, keyboards, and bass, he contributed to landmark albums including "Please to See the King" (1971). He later formed the duo Gigspanner with John Spiers and received Fatea Magazine's Instrumentalist of the Year award in 2017.

Since this interview

Knight began performing as a duo with Bellowhead founder John Spiers in 2016. His Gigspanner Big Band released "Turnstone" in 2025, winning Folk London's Best Album of 2025, Folkscene's Album of the Year, and Bright Young Folk Reader's Choice Album of the Year. In 2026, he toured marking the 10th anniversary of his collaboration with Spiers.
