About Rick Derringer
Rick Derringer was a guitarist, singer, songwriter, and producer whose career spanned six decades. He achieved fame as a member of The McCoys, scoring a No. 1 hit with "Hang on Sloopy" in 1965. His solo career included the 1973 hit "Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo." He produced "Weird Al" Yankovic's first six albums, winning a Grammy for "Eat It," and composed Hulk Hogan's WWF theme "Real American."
Since this interview
Derringer continued touring and recording into his seventies, releasing the album "Rock the Yacht" with his wife Jenda in 2023. He performed on Peter Frampton's Guitar Circus tour in 2014 and toured with HippieFest in 2018. He died on May 26, 2025, at age 77 in Ormond Beach, Florida.
