About Norman Greenbaum
Norman Greenbaum is an American singer-songwriter born in Malden, Massachusetts. He first gained attention as leader of Dr. West's Medicine Show and Junk Band, recording the novelty hit "The Eggplant That Ate Chicago." His 1969 single "Spirit in the Sky" reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100, sold two million copies, and became a cultural touchstone, appearing in over sixty films and thirty commercials.
Since this interview
Greenbaum was seriously injured in a 2015 car accident that left him in a coma for three and a half weeks. After extensive rehabilitation, he returned to performing, forming a new band and booking gigs in Northern California.
