About Gary Lewis
Gary Lewis, born Gary Harold Lee Levitch, is an American musician best known as the leader of Gary Lewis & the Playboys. The son of comedian Jerry Lewis, he achieved remarkable chart success in the mid-1960s with hits including "This Diamond Ring," which reached number one in February 1965. His first seven Hot 100 releases all reached the top ten, a feat matched only by The Lovin' Spoonful in that decade. In 1965, Cash Box magazine named him Male Vocalist of the Year.
Since this interview
Gary Lewis and the Playboys have continued touring worldwide through 2025, performing at casinos, festivals, fairs, cruise ships, and corporate events alongside other acts from the 1950s, '60s, and '70s. In January 2012, Lewis released the new single "You Can't Go Back."
