About Sugar Ray Leonard
Sugar Ray Leonard, born Ray Charles Leonard in Wilmington, North Carolina, won the 1976 Olympic gold medal in light-welterweight boxing before turning professional. He captured world titles in five different weight classes and compiled a record of 36-3-1 with 25 knockouts. His 1987 victory over Marvin Hagler for the WBC middleweight title is considered one of boxing's greatest matches. Leonard became the first boxer to earn more than $100 million in prize money.
Since this interview
Leonard published his memoir *The Big Fight: My Life In and Out of the Ring* in 2011 and appeared on ABC's *Dancing with the Stars* the same year. He established the Sugar Ray Leonard Foundation with his wife Bernadette in 2009 to support juvenile diabetes research.
