About Liz Garbus
Liz Garbus is an Academy Award-nominated documentary filmmaker born in New York City. She co-directed The Farm: Angola, USA (1998), which won the Sundance Grand Jury Prize and two Emmy Awards. Her acclaimed work includes Ghosts of Abu Ghraib (2007), Bobby Fischer Against the World (2011), and What Happened, Miss Simone? (2015), which earned her a second Oscar nomination. She co-founded Story Syndicate, a documentary production company, and has expanded into scripted television.

Garbus directed the Netflix documentary series Harry & Meghan (2022) about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. She expanded into scripted television, directing episodes of The Handmaid's Tale and Yellowjackets. In 2025, she directed her first pilot for Hulu's Natalia Grace miniseries Good American Family while working on true crime documentaries about the Long Island Serial Killer and University of Idaho murders.
