About Isaac Hayes
Isaac Hayes was a soul musician, songwriter, and actor who shaped the sound of Memphis soul at Stax Records. With writing partner David Porter, he composed over 200 songs including the Grammy-winning "Soul Man." His 1969 album Hot Buttered Soul influenced disco and hip-hop, and his "Theme from Shaft" won an Academy Award in 1971. He later voiced Chef on South Park and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

Hayes died on August 10, 2008, at age 65 in East Memphis, Tennessee.
