About Patty Hearst

Patricia Campbell Hearst, granddaughter of publishing magnate William Randolph Hearst, became a national figure after her kidnapping by the Symbionese Liberation Army in February 1974. She participated in an armed bank robbery two months later and was convicted in 1976, serving time before her sentence was commuted. She later published a memoir and appeared in several John Waters films, including Cry-Baby and Serial Mom.
