About Ed Asner (second interview)
Ed Asner was an American actor who earned seven Primetime Emmy Awards, the most of any male performer. He portrayed Lou Grant on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and its spinoff Lou Grant, and won Emmys for Rich Man, Poor Man and Roots. He served as Screen Actors Guild President from 1981 to 1985 and voiced Carl Fredricksen in Pixar's Up.

Ed Asner continued working in television with recurring roles in Cobra Kai and Dead to Me, and guest-starred in the final season of Modern Family in 2020. He died on August 29, 2021, at age 91 at his home in Tarzana, California.
