About Jack LaLanne (second interview)

Jack LaLanne was a fitness and nutrition pioneer who opened the nation's first health club in Oakland in 1936, featuring a gym, juice bar, and health food store. He hosted The Jack LaLanne Show, an early-morning televised exercise program that launched in the 1950s and became nationally syndicated. LaLanne designed exercise machines including leg extension machines and cable-pulley weights, and served as a founding member of President Kennedy's Council on Physical Fitness in 1963.
