About Rue McLanahan
Rue McClanahan was an American actress who built a distinguished television career spanning three decades. She portrayed Vivian Harmon on Maude from 1972 to 1978 and Aunt Fran on Mama's Family. She achieved her greatest fame as Blanche Devereaux on The Golden Girls, winning an Emmy Award in 1987 and earning four nominations total. She reprised the role in The Golden Palace and later appeared on Broadway in Wicked.
Since this interview
McClanahan continued acting in television and theater, including a Broadway run as Madame Morrible in Wicked from 2005 to 2006. She published her autobiography, My First Five Husbands ... and the Ones Who Got Away, in 2007. She died on June 3, 2010, at age 76.
