About Richard Engel
Richard Engel is an American journalist and author who served as NBC News' Chief Foreign Correspondent beginning in April 2008. He is known for being the only American television correspondent to remain in Baghdad for the entire Iraq War. His 2004 book "A Fist in the Hornet's Nest" chronicles his experiences covering the conflict. Engel has received seven News & Documentary Emmy Awards, a 2009 Peabody Award for his Afghanistan series "Tip of the Spear," and the 2008 Medill Medal for Courage in Journalism.

Engel married Mary Forrest in 2015 and went on to host the MSNBC series "On Assignment with Richard Engel," which won a 2019 Peabody Award. In April 2022, he presented the documentary "Ukraine: Freedom or Death," covering the first two months of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
